The Power of Small Acts of Kindness

A story is told about a boy and the starfish. A boy was walking along the beach where thousands of starfish had washed ashore. He started picking them up and throwing them back into the ocean. A man approached and said, "There are too many. You can't save them all." The boy replied as he threw another starfish into the water, "I made a difference for that one."

Be kind to everyone

There's no such thing as small acts of kindness

Sometimes in life, we think that the positive difference we can make is too small, and we choose not to make a difference anymore. It’s so easy to convince ourselves that any positive thing we do for others may not have a great impact on them. However, as true followers of Jesus Christ (Yahshua), we are called to do even the smallest act of kindness but with great love.

Don’t underestimate the power of small acts of kindness. Remember that the biggest changes you see in the world started small. In the same manner, your small acts of kindness, when done repeatedly and done by many people, create a compound effect that would eventually transform the world.

Kindness as a commandment

Can you just imagine what kind of world we would live in if everyone performed an act of kindness every day? Choose to be kind. It won’t cost you anything, but it would surely make this world a better place.

Ephesians 4:32 tells us:

"And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you."

As Christians, being kind is not optional. It should be our first choice, our first instinct, our default. Small acts of kindness are tangible expressions of God’s royal law of love. Whether it's lending a listening ear, providing assistance, or offering a simple gesture of goodwill, these acts fulfill the command to love our neighbors, echoing the teachings of Christ.

Choose to be kind

Going back to the story, the act of the boy in helping the starfish go back to the sea may be insignificant in the eyes of the man, but for the starfish, it means the whole world to them.

So, be kind to one another. You never know what power your kindness holds for those who are touched by it.
